Biography

Imam John Ederer

Imam John Ederer embraced Islam in 1998 in Tulsa, Oklahoma after reading the Qur’an. He found in it the truth that had always resonated in his heart. In 2002, he began a seven-year journey seeking the sacred sciences of Islam, studying formally at the Islamic American University in Michigan and the Diwan Center in Egypt, where he attained a degree of mastery in Arabic. He spent five years studying classical texts under prominent scholars in Egypt and Kuwait.

During his time in Kuwait, Imam John worked with the Islam Presentation Committee and the Ministries of Justice and Religious Affairs, promoting religious understanding and interfaith dialogue. He later earned a license in the memorization and recitation of the Qur’an. In 2009, he returned to the United States and began full-time Imam service at the Islamic Foundation of South Florida before joining the Charlotte Muslim Community Center (Pillars Mosque), where he now serves as Imam and Religious Director.

Imam John’s mission centers on reviving the Prophetic character and priorities within modern society. He believes Muslims today must emphasize the principles and objectives of Islamic Theology to overcome cultural stagnancy and the decadence that challenges the ummah. He advocates a balanced vision of spiritual renewal, moral accountability, and intellectual engagement—helping Muslims be both traditionally faithful and modern in application. His teachings stress humility, service, and revival of sincere devotion to Allah ﷻ.

A frequent speaker and writer, Imam John has taught courses, delivered khutbahs, and authored numerous articles on Islamic thought and community issues. He has written extensively for the Virtual Mosque (virtualmosque.com/author/yahya-ederer) and continues to contribute to educational initiatives that strengthen faith and understanding across communities.

A Message from the Imam

“I pray you are showered with peace, blessings, and mercy from Allah ﷻ. Islam is about an intimate connection with The Divine Truth. We must strive for sincerity and humility, seeking forgiveness and guidance from The Perfect and Exalted. In a world filled with distractions and injustice, we are called to rise above materialism, embrace spiritual authenticity, and work together for the betterment of our souls, families, and society. True faith demands sacrifice and action — a revival of our hearts through service and gratitude.”
